NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour

Southern National 150

1st Place – Burt Myers – StopTech STR-43 calipers, AeroRotors, pads

Myers Stays Hot With Third Win

Whatever Burt Myers did to turn his season around it has worked. Could it have been his StopTech brakes? We’d like to think we had a hand in it because for just the second time in his career - and the first time since 2005 - Myers led every lap to win the Southern National 150 at Southern National Motorsports Park after holding off a hard charge from fellow “Team StopTech” member, George Brunnhoelzl III.

And not only did Team StopTech nab the top two steps of the podium, but the 4th, 5th, 6th, 9th, 10th, and 12th place cars were also equipped with StopTech brakes from Pro-System. Still, the spotlight was definitely on Burt.

With his third win Myers equaled his career-best for victories in a season in NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour competition having scored three checkered flags last year and also during the inaugural 2005 campaign for the tour.

"I can't believe the run we are having right now," Myers said. "Everybody on all these teams works hard, but I can't be more proud of my guys and I am so happy I can give them another win."

Myers started from pole in a race that went caution free for the first 101 laps of the race before the first of three caution flags were displayed to the field.

On the initial restart after pit stops during the first caution Brunnhoelzl charged from fourth to second and made several charges to his bumper to get around Myers but couldn't make it work.

"We were just way too loose and every time I tried to get on the throttle the car got way loose," said Brunnhoelzl.

The modifieds return to action next Saturday, September 27 at Caraway Speedway in Sophia, N.C.

Compass360 Takes COTA

Compass360’s Ryan Eversley and Kyle Gimple came out victorious this weekend in an exciting Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge race at one of the country’s most impressive race tracks, the Circuit of The Americas in Austin, Texas. Known for hosting the United States’ round of the Formula 1 calendar in early November, this weekend’s event was all about sportscar racing.

Gimple, who had qualified in P4 made quick work of the leaders and took the lead of the race in the early going. As expected, his #75 Children’s Tumor Foundation / Honda HPD / Racing4Research.org Civic Si — the lead front-wheel-drive car — suffered tire degradation earlier than its rear-wheel-drive Street Tuner competition, but Kyle did a masterful job of maintaining the pace in third while conserving his Continental rubber.

When their fuel window opened up, Gimple pitted and Eversley took the wheel just as the rain started to fall more heavily. Ryan drove consistently and carefully, staying close to the leaders until it was time to strike. With just over an hour to go he took the lead and built a ten second lead over the hard-charging Porsche Cayman of now-championship leader Eric Foss and the Mazda MX-5 of the Brothers Pombo. He was able to hold that margin until the end of the race, taking a dramatic victory at a track that generally doesn’t suit the Hondas.

“We saw the rain coming and everyone in the pits was doing a little rain dance,” laughed Eversley. “In the dry, the gearing of our car is a little off, but with the rain it evened that out. Kyle did a simply amazing stint right at the front and saved the car for me so I had enough to fight with and maintain the gap at the end.”

Gimple was equally enthusiastic. “Hats off to the crew for an amazing stop. They really rocked it and made a huge difference. Also thanks to Ray Lee making the right call on the pit wall to leave the dry tires on even though it was raining. I’m super happy to win again for these guys.”

The Compass360 Racing crew returns to Toronto for what will be a quick turn-around before heading to Road Atlanta for the CTSCC season finale on October 3rd for the Petit LeMans weekend.

The CTSCC race at Circuit of The Americas will be aired September 28th at 12:00pm ET on Fox Sports 1, and will be available for streaming post-broadcast a http://imsa.com.

1st Place Pro 4 Round 13 – Doug Fortin - StopTech STO-43 Off-Road Racing Calipers

Weather Can’t Stop Team StopTech During Lucas Oil Off-Road Races in Vegas

Rain and lightning may have gotten the best of the Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series (LOORRS) on Saturday in Las Vegas, but Friday’s Round 13 action was white hot. With championship hopes on the line, the competition was fierce as fellow Team StopTech members Doug Fortin (#96) and Greg Adler (#10) duked it out in Pro 4. Meanwhile Jerett Brooks (#77) managed to sneak off with the trophy in Pro Lite during a rare appearance outside of his usual TORC playground.

In the Pro 4 race Fortin managed to avoid getting caught up in a series of incidents that saw one competitor after another drop back or drop out. At the final turn of the final lap, Doug was leading but a hard-charging Rob MacCachren shoved his way past, seemingly resigning Fortin to 2nd place. The race officials thought the pass was a little too aggressive, however, and dropped Rob Mac out of the points, giving Fortin the well-deserved win and moving Greg Adler into second.

Pro Lite, meanwhile, had one of the largest fields of the year with Team StopTech’s own TORC regular Jerett Brooks playing with the west coast boys this weekend. He made the most of it too, hanging in the top 4 most of the race before he was able to take advantage of a couple of incidents between Brian Deegan, Casey Currie and Jeff Hoffman. The carnage allowed Brooks to slip through and maintain his lead until the end, giving him the win.
